Giving Tuesday

Although the first day of fall is September 23, it never really feels like we’re in autumn until Halloween rolls around, especially this year, when it has felt like an extended summer. Nevertheless, we are barreling toward the end of the Masonic Year, with the Grand Annual Communication next week. We will have our annual luncheon and the Craft will welcome a new Grand Master. It is an exciting time to be sure.

November is a busy month for the Masonic Home, and it kicks off the holiday season. The first big event we have is the luncheon during the Grand Annual Communication (there is still time to purchase a ticket!). You will be able to join residents and supporters of the Home for a delicious lunch and hear our Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master say a few words. We will be mailing an appeal letter to all Masons in the Grand Lodge of Virginia, celebrating Thanksgiving, and lighting our Christmas tree.

This year, though, I would like to try something a little new (to the Home, at least), and I hope you will join in. It’s called Giving Tuesday, and it is to nonprofits what Black Friday is to retail store and Cyber Monday is to middle school students in the late 90s online merchants. The idea is to have a day of global giving, a day when the world comes together to collectively support the good being done in communities everywhere. That day is November 29 this year.

What we need from you is to support your favorite charity, be it MAHOVA or another well deserving organization.
