History of MAHOVA

Founded in 1890, MAHOVA has evolved from a Masonic orphanage into a thriving retirement community serving over 200 adults today.

A Legacy of Generosity

• Dr. George Potts, a passionate advocate, urged the Grand Lodge to establish a Masonic home.
• Captain A.G. Babcock provided the first donation of $5,000 and 44.5 acres of land, laying the foundation for MAHOVA.

Growth & Transformation

• From 1890 to 1975, MAHOVA raised 839 children of Virginia Master Masons.
• Since 1955, it has provided care for over 1,200 adults.
• The campus expanded to 90 acres, continuing its mission of Masonic care and fellowship.

A Place of Tradition

The MAHOVA Chapel, built in 1947, remains a cornerstone of community life, hosting weekly services and memorials. MAHOVA stands as a testament to Masonic values—offering care, support, and a true sense of home.
